Now my daughter is the one fighting a battle. A few months ago, I noticed she wasn’t herself anymore. She was always tired, her legs hurt, and the bruises on her skin became impossible to ignore. After countless tests, we heard the words no parent is ready for — acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Last week, after another long day at the hospital, she fell asleep while I sat beside her holding her hand. I looked at her and remembered the little girl who once gave me the strength to survive. I thought about how my husband never got to see her grow up, but his love is still here. So every day, I return to my small craft table and make these handmade cross necklaces — not just because of the medical bills, but because my husband isn’t here to protect her anymore.
But I am.
I’m still her mother. I’m not giving up.
